So with less then a week to go to my Christmas show at the Chelsea Town Hall I thought I would share a taster of the things I shall be exhibiting. I shall be showing my ever popular enamel button and round studs, plus my new collection of jewellery rolled with feathersSilver studs with red, mauve and blue enamel I will also be selling the option of black and royal blue.

Silver Cuff with lace detail these will also be able to be ordered with a feather design.

Button cufflinks with cotton thread, these are very popular at Christmas. I will also have my new feather and lace cufflinks at the show.

Inspired London

So I can now finally reveal my fantastic news I have been having to keep secret, my jewellery is about to be published in a book!

I am of course very excited, to be featured with so many other fantastic designer/makers based in London is such a joy.The book will contain how and where to buy the the best locally-made handmade British products directly for us the makers :).

The Book launch is coming up a the end of this month, which I am very much looking forward to.

Top Drawer

I went to to Top Drawer last week and thought I’d share with you some of the lovely people I met there. I have to say in part it is quite commercialised, a lot of the jewellery there was very cheap and not something I would buy, but there were a few handmade gems hidden about the place.

Ali Miller’s ceramics and interior products draw upon nostalgic imagery, personal experience and family history. I am a big fan of her tea cups and her milk jug with cow imagery on it.

I have followed Poppy Treffry for many years so it always lovely to see her company growing every year and to think she started off by herself and an old sewing machine. I love the fact that she still makes almost everything still in her Cornish studio, I purchased some lovely wrapping paper and cards while I was on holiday in her new shop in St Ives, also I am a sucker for anything nautical.

Finally I had the pleasure of meeting the designers behind orwell and goode. This lovely duo are based in scotland and produce gorgeous print work, I am a special fan of their lampshades, but they produce all sorts of goodies including tote bags and cushions. It was so nice to chat to them and find out more about their buisness and how they both got started.

East London Print Makers

So I haven’t posted for a while as I have busy with some new projects, a couple of which I will let you know about soon.

With the weather doing it’s best to keep me in doors, I thought I’d let you know about the East London Print Makers which provide open access facilities for screenprinting, etching, and relief printing. It is run by a group of artist/printmakers with a wide range of experience and knowledge. They also run work shops and recently had an open studio where you watch the artists in action and pick up some of their lovely work.

Also my lovely friend Hazel Stark was there printing a small run of her quirky mask cushions, but be quick if you want one she only printed a few.

Recently I have been covering other designer/makers and artists but I finally get to show off my new work.

So with Made in Clerkenwell done and dusted I thought I’d take some time out of my busy schedule to let you know about another designer. Charlotte Kirkland creates fantastic illustrated prints – at the moment she produces her gorgeous designs onto cards and cushions, I would love some of her ducks on my bathroom wall.

Where did you study or when did you start making jewellery?
I studied at Winchester School of Art, It’s a beautiful place!

Do you have a particular designer that influences you or you take inspiration from?

I love anything that’s nature inspired and looks a little bit botanical, old fashioned with a twist I guess. I think the work of Thomas Paul is absolutely amazing, Thornback and Peel are great, and I find the work of Jen Rowland really interesting. I love her use of colour and the work has a very naturalistic feel about it.

Have you always wanted to be a designer/artist?

I guess I have always been drawn to beautiful things. I am a bit of a hoarder, and it makes me feel good when I make something and think it looks appealing- that’s the challenge that I set myself.

I see you use lithography in your work, how did you end up using this process?

I use the process mainly because of how unpredictable it can be. I love the effect that I get from Xerox, and I think that it complements the botanical style illustrations I create.

What is your favourite animal to draw and why?

I love drawing chickens! I think that they are comical creatures and I really like portraying their characters on paper.

Make a Corsage Accessory

I am running one of my fantastic workshops again, making beautiful corsages. It runs from 6pm til 8pm and there is bound to be plenty of fun, just follow the link below.
